We talk about eating a rainbow of colors often with our kids – at the grocery store, at the farmer’s market and when we’re planning our weekly menu. I’m not sure they really understand why it’s important to include all the colors, but they do like the challenge of including as many colors as they can.
Today we might have set a Rau Family record. Between all of our meals and snacks, and our 8-Veggie Stir Fry dinner, we did it! Here’s how it looked:
White – onion and garlic (stir fry dinner)
Yellow – lemons (lemonade with lunch)
Orange – peach (dessert)
Red – strawberries & tomatoes (lunch), red bell peppers and more tomatoes (stir fry)
Green – beet greens (lunch), green beans (from our garden) and rainbow chard (picked out by my son for dinner – to make sure we ate the full rainbow)
Purple/Blue – plums (dessert)
Thankfully we had a nice mix of vegetables and fruit so we won’t have upset bellies tomorrow (compared to days where we’ve eaten the whole rainbow in fruit!). The kids are pretty proud of their record-setting day…and I’m one proud mama.
Come on over to our Facebook Community and share your child’s favorite colors.

I am so glad to have found your blog! I love what you’re doing here and have added your link to my business blogroll at http://www.euphoriababy.com/blog/.
Love this idea. What a simple concept, just need to put it to work! Maybe even a chart for the kitchen marking what we accomplished for the day. I am into charts lately, getting ready to hand make a chore chart, potty chart, maybe this will be next!!
Such a great post! Jodi I am totally into charts too!!! Check out my site for the one I made called Today I Ate A Rainbow
