Does your family have those meals that seem to be requested often? Like every week? My kids have some favorite meals that they just can get enough of, like our Mexi Bowls, pasta and turkey chili. I’m pretty sure they’d eat them every week if we let them.

They also love chicken apple sausage and will eat it just about any way we serve it – grilled and served with veggies during the summertime, or tossed with peas, pasta and cinnamon. We often buy the three-pack (which means 15 sausages) at Costco and they don’t last as long as you’d think around here.

I have to admit that I’m a little burned out on the sausages. So when the kids asked to eat up the last pack this week, I was less than enthused about another pasta toss. I told them I’d think about it.

Grocery shopping later that very day brought a new idea: we found natural croissant roll dough. Remember the stuff your mom made? Well, it’s the same thing but “natural”. Not sure what that means in this case but it made me feel better, so we bought them.

Dinner could not have been easier!  While broccoli was roasting in the oven, I cut up the sausage and rolled each half in a doughy triangle. Popped them in the oven for about 14 minutes, and voila! Dinner was served.

Chicken Sausage in a Blanket
And dinner was good. I know this is not a revolutionary idea and putting a hot dog in some pastry dough has been done for ages but, as a grown up, I enjoyed our “kid-friendly” dinner last night.

Want the recipe? There isn’t one. Seriously. Buy the sausage and croissant roll pastry. You’ll know what to do. If you really want to get fancy, you could add a bit of barbeque sauce or Dijon mustard to the dough before you put the sausage in. Our sausage was full of flavor and the rolls are so moist that we didn’t need anything else.

Now here’s the fun part. Help us name our dinner! What should we call these?
