What feels like forever ago, we learned that a new Whole Foods Market was coming to town. We live in between two stores and don’t often drive in either direction so this new location is so much more convenient for us. Each time I’ve driven by the new building over the last few months, I’ve said a little “open, open, open” in my head. And maybe out loud. Maybe.
Well, it’s finally opening this week! (giddy squeal) And, I was fortunate enough to get a sneak peak last week thanks to the fabulous folks that I know who work for the company. As most new Whole Foods’ stores are, this one is beautiful. All of the little touches you expect from them are there.
And our new store has a lot of them. Especially around the local theme that Whole Foods has long been committed to.
Their program, From Around Here, means that the food was grown, produced, farmed, harvested, or finished in the local region, which for us means right here in Oregon. And our Greenway Whole Foods carries more than 500 local products. Impressive! The bakery uses local eggs, grains and butter and, best of all for my family, you’ll never find donut sprinkles with artificial food dyes!
Guess why my kiddos don’t complain about going to Whole Foods on a weekend morning?
There is a massive community area that includes indoor seating and a large outdoor area which is fully equipped with heaters, Adirondacks, a fire pit and lots of power outlets! And with no additional charge for GMO-free, non-dairy alternatives for their lattes, this may be my remote office this summer.
For my family, there’s pretty much something for everyone. My little pretzel lover is going to flip for the chocolate hazelnut butter. And with no added sugars like the other guys, this may be a frequent after-school or before-sports snack.
The 350 linear feet in their beer case includes a variety of local beers like our favorites from Worthy, Hub, Ninkasi and Double Mountain, along with a growler station. Would you believe these “bottle caps” are hand chalked by Whole Foods staff? Extremely impressive!
My daughter’s recent favorite snack are delicious Pacific Northwest Kale Chips. I brought them home from the event and had to battle her for a few crumbs. This is one snack that she can have whenever my sweet girl wants.
We’ve been a Whole Foods family for a long time – I’ve shopped their stores since the early 90’s when I’d travel to Texas frequently. There are so many reasons to love our new Whole Foods Greenway store! I’ll share a few more over the coming days and hope you’ll tell us what you love about shopping there too!
